The Mill Coleford

Situated just south of Babington, artisan-build specialist, Daniel Jeffries, commissioned me to showcase the remarkable quality of his work within the restoration of this stunning watermill. He was seeking a visual description; a communication of an elegant, soft open space whilst highlighting the very details, colour and superb finish-quality that embody his skills.

With his growing reputation resting partly on this project Dan was clear that he was looking for quality over quantity. The images needed to both encapsulate the elegance and softness of the very open space whilst also bringing to the fore those small details, his eye for colour, and the remarkable quality of the finish.

THE PROCESS
We worked in collaboration, dressing the areas with simple objects to punctuate, add interest and to aid composition. Beyond that, Dan very much left me to do my own thing. Whilst I never want to be the loudest voice in the room, offering my own input and artist’s sense of colour and shape was one of the most satisfying aspects of creating a great job. The moment when our two visions clicked (no pun intended), and I was left to fly, was a good moment indeed.

Notable for its unique features, such as the glass-encased waterwheel, this open, stylish home and small workspace cottage windows made for challenging conditions as the warm autumn sun lowered. For all my love of artistry, practicality in getting the job done was a vital part of completing work on time and within budget.
